My scanner is still giving good results on my old OS. Now want to move to Win 7. or 10.
Is a updated driver available for this model scanner or do I have to dump it?
Would appreciate reasonable printable advice. Thanks.

I have a Pavillion lap top running Windows 7 with XP compatability. I had a Scanjet 5470C scanner in perfect working order installed together with 2 HP printers which encountered problems. Tech support, as part of the solution, erased all and every piece of HP software/drivers etc from the computer. After a considerable effort they restored both printers to full funcionality.
Printer support cannot help with scanners so I tried to download the drivers from HP support.
80% through the install the following message appears:
HP prescisionscanner Pro 3.1 install info.
Error 1904.Module C: programme files(x86)common fileHewlett Packardscanjethpgwiaamd.dll failed to register. HRESULT-2147024770.
HP say they no longer support this scanner and are unable to help. I suspect that the download is corrupt but there is no way to check despite getting the same error message on three different downloads.
The problem was caused by HP but they cannot/willnot help with any definition of what the error message means or what corrective action to take since throwing away a perfectly good scanner annoys me.
Any help out there greatfully recieved

SInce that scanner is not supported by Windows 7 and there is no W7 driver available I don’t see how you had it working in the first place, not saying you did not.
What do you mean by "Windows 7 with XP compatibility"

As one other member within this thread has pointed out, unfortunately, the HP Scanjet 5470c scanner is not compatible with Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit as we can see from the Windows 7 Compatibility Center.
You might want to also consider the use of Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC, Windows XP Mode works in two ways – both as a virtual operating system and as a way to open programs within Windows 7. In some cases, you can install hardware devices and use the drivers designed for Windows XP within Windows 7 via Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC. This will not work in every scenario with hardware compatibility concerns however it will work in some.
The Windows XP driver available for the HP ScanJet 5470c scanner is available from HP here. Should you proceed with Microsoft’s Windows XP Mode virtualization soultion, you may have to manually attach the device by performing the folloiwng steps:
- Click the USB tab on the XP menu bar
- Click ATTACH
Another option would be to try to install the scanner driver within compatibility mode.
For your convenience I have included the instructions for Compatibility Hardware Device Drivers by Microsoft MVP, Ronnie Vernon, from the TechNet forums:
COMPATIBILITY HARDWARE DEVICE DRIVERS:
1. Place the driver installation file on the Desktop.
2. Right Click the driver installation file and select Properties/Compatibility Tab . Select the appropriate options in from the list. In your case, you would select Windows Vista.
3. Click Apply/OK .
4. Right Click the file and select the Run As Administrator option to install.
